Mount Pleasant will be getting its very own indie movie theater, according to the Washington Post. The theater, named Suns Cinema, is being opened by two of our Mount Pleasant neighbors, David Cabrera and Ryan Hunter Mitchell.
Film enthusiasts, the pair have long hosted their own movie-viewing nights at their shared apartment in Mount Pleasant. In early January they decided to take their home viewings to the big screen, and secured the space once occupied by Xtreme Communications on Mount Pleasant Street. Cabrera and Hunter Mitchell plan to show classic films for a 40-seat audience, and serve concessions, beer and cocktails from a small bar.
A Kickstarter campaign will be launched in the next several weeks to help fund the project, which Cabrera and Hunter Mitchell hope to open by the early summer.
